Description

This dataset contains annotations of black corals (Hexacorallia:Antipatharia) observed in the ROV videos recorded during the RV Celtic Explorer surveys: CE13008, CE14009, CE16006, CE17008, CE18012, CE21010, CE23010. Annotations have been recorded in VARS and morphospecies names have been attributed according to an in-house guide.

Data Records

The data in this sampling event resource has been published as a Darwin Core Archive (DwC-A), which is a standardized format for sharing biodiversity data as a set of one or more data tables. The core data table contains 346 records.

1 extension data tables also exist. An extension record supplies extra information about a core record. The number of records in each extension data table is illustrated below.

Event (core)

This IPT archives the data and thus serves as the data repository. The data and resource metadata are available for download in the downloads section. The versions table lists other versions of the resource that have been made publicly available and allows tracking changes made to the resource over time.

Sampling Methods

ROV data was collected with ROV Holland I, deployed from RV Celtic Explorer

Study Extent The study encompasses the NE Atlantic Margin as per Morrissey et al., 2023

Method step description:

  1. Each ROV video was annotated using a local copy of VARS v. 8.3.1. Each annotation was at the lowest taxonomical level possible, ideally species, although most of the annotations are of genera. Annotation were merged with a dataset containing the position of the ROV (retrieved through OFOP and Sonardyne) by the real time of observation.
