The Shark Trust Great Eggcase Hunt

The Shark Trust have an internal verification and QA process. In 2003 paper records were used and transferred to excel sheets, in 2010 online recording started and in 2014 the first app appeared which was updated in 2023. The Shark Trust have gone from receiving 100 records to 50,000 records a year so manual QA is difficult!

Verification

Data is verified internally and there is an internal QA process. Images and ranges are examined to ensure that the identification makes sense and that the range is correct, they also check that there is evidence of a sighting (otherwise this is classed as unverified). A community identification platform is being developed, currently in its beta testing phase, to support the process.
