MEDIN Discovery Metadata Records are created to describe datasets and make them discoverable to the public, with information about data accessibility. It is a requirement for data submitted to any MEDIN Data Archive Centres to have MEDIN Discovery Metadata Records.
Metadata records created using the MEDIN Metadata Editor comply with the MEDIN Metadata Standard v3.1.2 (more information available on the MEDIN website). You will need to create an account to use the online editor, where you can create your own metadata records. The online tool has an in-built validator to ensure compliance with the metadata standard. Once your discovery metadata record passes validation, completed records can be published to the MEDIN Portal. Records added to the MEDIN Portal are also shared to the global Ocean Info Hub, making them findable beyond the UK.
For queries regarding the creation of metadata records please contact the MEDIN Metadata Helpdesk, supported by DASSH, at medin.metadata@mba.ac.uk.
For further information on searching for MEDIN Discovery Metadata Records that have been exported to the MEDIN Portal, see DASSH - Retrieving Data.
